ComrAIDS is designed to help people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) by increasing their knowledge and understanding, as well as raising awareness among the public to prevent its spread through education. Aims to motivate PLWHA and help them stay on track with their ARV therapy through monitoring and reminders. Additionally, it connects PLWHA and the community with experts for consultations and eliminate discrimination/stigma through forum. It includes a risk survey feature to help individuals assess their chances of contracting HIV and recommend nearby healthcare facilities that provide HIV services.
In developing ComrAIDS, I followed a User-Centered Design (UCD) approach, breaking the process into distinct phases:
Research and Analysis: I began by conducting in-depth interviews and observational studies with 15 PLWHA at Lembaga Wyata Guna. This research provided crucial insights into users' daily challenges, information needs, and app interaction preferences. I analyzed the data to identify key pain points and opportunities for the app to address.
User Understanding: Based on the research findings, I created detailed user personas and journey maps. These tools helped the team visualize and empathize with our users' experiences, guiding our design decisions throughout the project.
Ideation and Conceptualization: We held collaborative brainstorming sessions to generate ideas for app features that would address the identified user needs. I then translated these ideas into concept sketches and low-fidelity wireframes, focusing on creating an intuitive user flow.
Prototyping: Using the wireframes as a foundation, I developed high-fidelity prototypes of the ComrAIDS app. These prototypes included key features such as the ARV reminder system, educational resources, and community forum.
User Testing: I conducted usability testing sessions with groups of 5-7 users from our target audience. These sessions allowed us to gather valuable feedback on the app's functionality and user interface.
Iteration and Refinement: Based on user feedback, I made iterative improvements to the app's design. This process involved multiple rounds of adjustments and retesting to ensure that ComrAIDS effectively met user needs.
Final Design and Handoff: After several iterations, I finalized the app design and prepared detailed documentation for the development team. This included design specifications, interaction guidelines, and asset libraries to ensure smooth implementation.
Throughout each phase, I maintained close collaboration with the development team and stakeholders at Lembaga Wyata Guna, ensuring that the final product aligned with both user needs and technical constraints.
ComrAIDS has made a meaningful impact within its targeted user base at Lembaga Wyata Guna. Among the 50 PLWHA using the app, we've observed a 30% increase in ARV therapy adherence, as reported by the users themselves. User surveys indicate that 80% of participants feel more informed about their condition, with many citing the educational resources as particularly helpful.
The expert consultation feature has facilitated over 100 interactions between users and healthcare professionals, providing vital support and information. Additionally, 70% of users report feeling more connected to their community through the app's forum feature, helping to alleviate feelings of isolation. While the scale is modest, these results demonstrate ComrAIDS' potential to significantly improve the quality of life for PLWHA, even in small communities.
The app's success at Lembaga Wyata Guna provides a solid foundation for potential expansion to serve larger PLWHA populations in the future.
