Snailly is a dual-function platform consisting of a mobile app and a web-based monitoring dashboard for parents. The app, installed on the child’s device, uses machine learning and deep learning algorithms to dynamically analyze and filter out inappropriate words and images on websites in real time. This filtering mechanism works even as children browse, identifying harmful or age-inappropriate content based on contextual keyword analysis and image recognition.
The parental dashboard offers a centralized space where parents can track browsing activity, set specific site restrictions, view attempted accesses to blocked content, and receive real-time alerts. Key features include Intelligent Content Blocking, Customizable Filters, Activity Monitoring Dashboard, and Real-Time Notifications for any flagged browsing activity. With Snailly’s AI-powered filtering, parents can create a safer browsing environment without heavily restricting internet usage.
Our design and development process focused on creating a seamless experience for both children and parents. We began by conducting extensive user interviews and surveys with parents to understand the challenges and requirements for effective, non-intrusive monitoring. Using a User-Centered Design (UCD) approach, we designed an interface for children that is friendly and unobtrusive, allowing them to browse without feeling restricted.
On the parental side, we emphasized ease of use and transparency through the dashboard interface. During development, our team employed Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Computer Vision techniques to analyze and filter website content at high accuracy.
To fine-tune content blocking, we used iterative testing with datasets containing various types of content, enabling Snailly to recognize potentially harmful material more effectively. A/B testing and System Usability Scale (SUS) feedback from parents ensured that the dashboard was intuitive, easy to navigate, and provided relevant data without overwhelming the user.
Since its launch, Snailly has received positive feedback from over 500 families who reported an increased sense of security regarding their child’s online experience. The AI-powered filtering system has reduced exposure to inappropriate content by 85%, and parents report higher satisfaction with real-time alerts and the transparency provided by the activity monitoring dashboard. Snailly’s impact extends beyond individual families, supporting safe internet practices by preventing early exposure to harmful content and empowering parents to create a more controlled online environment for their children.
